Frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has said that there is an orchestrated plot by some individuals to smear his reputation before national leadership of the party.
Abe, who spoke on Saturday during a mega rally organized by leaders of APC in Orashi, which held at Ahoada temporary stadium, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State said any campaign of calumny against him will fail.
Abe, who is the Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said he is interested in occupying the State Government House in 2019 because he has a clear plan to develop the state.
He stated that it was unfortunate for politicians who do not want him to actualize his ambition of becoming governor to resort to smear campaign in a bid to bring him down.
He said, “There is an orchestrated campaign to bring me down and paint me black before the national leadership of our party. The campaign is sponsored and paid for by some people because we have looked at what is happening in the state and said that we have solution”.
“Those who do not want that our decision to run have come up with a campaign of hate before our party leadership to end our campaign before we even start,” Senator Abe said.
He, however urged his supporters to ignore any hate campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation in the interest of the party and Rivers State at large, adding that what the state need now is unity and not politics of bitterness.
“Be ready to contribute to what is better for yourselves, do not respond to the smear campaign against me, do not answer them. We cannot join them in spreading the hate because we cannot destroy this party or destroy our state. What we need now is to bring development to our state, unity and not hate”.
“I plead with you not to respond to the politics of hate. They are saying those things because they came to me and said do not contest and I said no, it is my right to contest,” the senator noted.
Abe further disclosed that he has been screened to contest the primaries of the party, urging members of the party to support his ambition by voting him in the direct primaries.
“I have been screened. I am the only candidate from my senatorial district that has been screened. I want to appeal to people for the sake of equity and fairness to support my ambition,” he said, adding that direct primaries is the way to go in the APC for the interest of justice, equity and fairness in choosing the parties governorship candidate for the 2019 general elections.
He added, “We must collectively decide who becomes the party’s standard bearer, and anyone who gets it in a transparent process, we will all support him. That is why I came here to meet with you because I can trust you,” Senator said.
