The Rivers Ijaw Indigenous Forum (RIIF), a social-cultural organization in Rivers State has called on the people of Kula Kingdom in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area to support the lofty initiatives of Belema Oil Company for a robust service delivery and infrastructural development of the area.

Rising from a meeting held recently in Port Harcourt, the Chairman of the body, Comrade Tokubiye Tamunokuro, and the Coordinator, Mr Markson Loveday described the management of Belema Oil Company as vibrant entity, poised to transform the oil-rich community, noting that the choice of Kula community to take over the operations of OML 25 facility is timely because, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has failed the community in their over forty years of operation, noting that Belema Oil Company is God sent to liberate the people of Kula from the shackles of abuse, denial, exploitation and fueling of communal crisis as the modus operandi of SPDC.

He called on Kula Chiefs to close ranks and listen to the voice of reason, pointing out that the indigenous oil firm will tackle unemployment and create an enabling environment for the upliftment Kula and its environs.

“SPDC denied Kula people of basic amenities over the years but, rather divided the opinions of the people through bogous promises that never saw the light of the day. We want Belema Oil to take over the OML 25 facility because they have shown capacity by providing water, electricity, employment, scholarship awards etc in their few years of operations in the Niger Delta region” he asserted.

The group further advised the Executive Governor of the state, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to support local content policy and the aspiration of the people he is governing with a view to positioning indigenous companies to grow, saying that, it is evidently clear that SPDC has failed the people.

The applauded the giant feat recorded by Belema Oil Company with the recent pronouncement by the Federal Government that the Oil firm will undertake the construction of a Crude Oil Export Terminal in Kula. This gigantic project according to RIIF is a testimony that Belema Oil is professionally sound to carry out highly technical projects talk less of OML 25.

The group also lauded Belema Oil for relocating its corporate headquarters to Kula, saying it will enhance international concerns and further place Kula in the global map.
